Lower Inchlumpie is situated in open land in the secluded glen of Strathrusdale at the junction of the Blackwater and River Alness. It is part of the Ardross community and just 26 miles (about half an hour's drive) north of Inverness. It is 6 miles from the thriving town of Alness which is a Britain in Bloom Winner. Along Alness High Street are supermarkets, restaurants, Banks, Post Office and other shops.

Lower Inchlumpie is approached along a ¾ mile unsealed Forestry Commission roadway. The last few yards is a track running alongside the River Alness. Both can easily be driven by a saloon car.
